Don't burn the place down while I'm gone. And make sure to let me know about any good gossip. I'll be back a week from Sunday. I'll tell you all about Cuba. *hugs*
First - I love One with every fiber of my being. Have you seen her blog these past few days? It's all about the Kief pics. Which is all I need in life to make me happy.
Second - I have a new FreakFest location for us. October 3 - 5, The Kief will be at a charity auction in Toronto. Sure that's the weekend after I move in, but really what's more important The Kief or an apartment? I think the answer is pretty obvious.
And incase the answer wasn't obvious to you, I'd like to introduce you to one of the Day 3 promo pics:
It doesn't get any better than that. *cries silent tear of joy*
Listening to: Elbow - Fallen Angel
"All the fallen angels..."
It's here! It's here! It's here! It's here!!! Can you tell that I'm excited? Yep, my loverly and beautiful new elbow album was waiting at home for me last night after work. It is amazing. So very pretty. So pretty in fact that I listened to it all day and didn't even watch MI-5. I'll have to watch that when I get home from work.
I also went out for coffee with the boy today... This might be over before it even begins. He's nice enough, and cute but I'm not sure if we'll ever get to see each other. We work opposite shifts most of the time. Hard to have a relationship if you never see each other. Although part of me thinks that might be the best kind of relationship.
Listening to: nada, at work but reccing elbow's Fugitive Hotel
"I blow you a kiss, it should reach you tomorrow
As it flies from the other side of the world..."
Pooh's blog has made my night. Go and look at the super cute pic of Shane Vansen and Nathan West from Space: Above and Beyond that she posted. That picture caused me to spend 2 hours looking for anything I can find on S:AaB. I signed petitions to get the show on DVD, I bitched to Canada's answer to the Sci-Fi channel about not running it. Then that got me thinking about VR5. I have to tell you, my FOX hate on is stronger than ever. What is wrong with that Frelling network?
And I still can't find last nights episode of Sex and the City, which had my David on. That's just upsetting. And my Coupling downloads are taking forever. The pain of being a TV fanatic. Thank god it's now technically Tuesday, and The OC and MI-5 are on. I'm just pretending that The OC isn't on FOX. Nope, not a FOX show. 24 isn't a FOX show either.
Listening to: Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out)
"Scream as they fight for life, I can feel death can see it’s beady eyes
All these things into fruition, All these things we’ll one day swallow whole
And fade out again..."
First - I'm heading to Cuba next week for a week of sun, fun, and all inclusive drinks and food. Wheee! I'd invite you guys to join me, but you know... Cuba. Americans. They just don't mix very well. So I will be gone from next Saturday until the Saturday after that. Yay vacation! I'm going with 4 other girls that I work with, and we are going to have a blast.
Second - There's a boy. I don't normally talk about boys who are not on TV, or in a movie, or a really good book because generally there aren't any real live boys in my life. But there is one now. Kinda. It's very early. We went on our first date last night, and it was very nice. And he's cute. Adorable actually. I'm getting rather freaked out, because I really don't do the whole dating/boyfriend thing. It's scary. I hope it works out, at least for a while anyway. And if I get all goopy and annoying about this, please smack some sense into me. Thank you.
I've added a comment section due to Taggy having some serious issues lately. Plus, I think that One was going to put the smack down on me if I didn't add one soon.
Does anyone else have that friend that has completely opposite taste in movies? I went to the movies with that friend tonight. To see Uptown Girls. No Billy Joel songs were harmed in the making of that movie. Although, I strangely enjoy that Westlife cover... (SM there is your cheesy brit pop rec for the day) Hmmm, notice how I try to get away from talking about the movie by bringing up music? Cause the movie was seriously awful. Insanely boring, and plodding, and without much of a plot. So don't go see it. Although, I'm sure all you smart people weren't planning on seeing it anyway. And the worst part? I could've seen SWAT, but nooooo, she'd already seen it. Dude, like I wouldn't go see Colin for a second time any freakin day over Britney Murphy.
Oh, and the worst part? All the little kids in the theatre. I mean little kids, not just annoying teenagers. We went to the late show, it started at 9pm. The little boy who was sitting in front of me fidgeting couldn't have been older than 6. Part way through the movie he crawled into his mother's lap and started asking if they could go home yet. Repeat after me here folks, late shows are not for little kids.
So to get that god awful movie out of my mind, I am going to think about another movie I want to see, The Order. Is anyone else looking forward to this? Because I feel it has a lot to offer the movie going public. Namely, it has Wet!Heath.
Really, what more could a girl ask for?
Listening to: The Coral - Dreaming of You
"I still need you, but I don't want you..."
Went on the mad Elbow hunt at lunch. I started with HMV. They didn't have it. Then I tried Sunrise. No luck. As an added bonus, when I asked a clerk there, he gave me a blank look and said that he hadn't heard of them. Which annoyed me partially because he said it like "if I haven't heard of them, they aren't worth listening too", but mostly because he gave me that blank look of non-recognition that made me want to call him by name, ask him how his parents were, and remind him that we've met on numerous occasions, and I've been to his house because I used to be friends with his asshole younger brother when said brother wasn't a asshole. Instead, I just left. Tried one more place on that slim offhand chance that they had it. They didn't. By this point, I was 5 minutes late getting back to work.
So guess what all this rambling boils down to? 13 pounds (about $30 CDN), including shipping, and Amazon.co.uk will have it on my doorstep by next Friday. And that's the limited edition version. I love the internet. I don't even know why I bother with stores. Yuck.
MI-5 kicked all kinds of ass tonight. I'm still loving the OC, and mainly Seth. He cracks me up, and they need much more Seth on that show. AND they played Turin Breaks tonight. The music on that show is the best.
Listening to: Jeff Buckley - Lover, you should have come over.
"My body turns and yearns for a sleep that won't ever come,
It's never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder..."
I need the new elbow CD. Need it! Crave it! It's making me jittery knowing that it was released yesterday in the UK. So I pull it up on Amazon.ca, and guess when it's due out in Canada? JANUARY!! But I can pre-order it. Yeah, right. So I headed over to Amazon.co.uk, where I could have it shipped over from, but then I have to play shipping and in pounds, blah blah blah... but I read the reviews. People are saying that Cast of Thousands is possibly a better album than Asleep in the Back. Better?? AitB is one of my all time, top ten desert island albums. It's amazing! And CoT is better? How is the possible? This is why I need this CD. Right. Freaking. Now.
Off to hunt through the crappy CD stores in town on the offhand chance that someone imported it in.
DUE TO THE POWER OUTAGES AND THE STATE OF EMERGENCY THAT HAS BEEN DECLARED BY THE PREMIER OF ONTARIO, RADIOHEAD'S SOLD OUT PERFORMANCE AT THE MOLSON AMPHITHEATRE IN TORONTO THIS SATURDAY, AUGUST 16TH HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. TICKET HOLDERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO KEEP THEIR TICKETS UNTIL A RESCHEDULED DATE CAN BE CONFIRMED. WE WILL UPDATE THE STATUS OF THE RESCHEDULED DATE WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK TO TEN DAYS. WE APPOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY HAVE CAUSED TICKET HOLDERS.
Fucking Ernie Eves and his state of emergency. What emergency? Just cut back on some power... Jesus. And while I'm sure that a Radiohead concert might use a bit of power, they could just turn something else off. Like the Eaton Centre. I'm sure that thing sucks up a lot of power. Stupid blackouts. I really feel bad for my friend J, because Radiohead are second on her "to see before I die" list, and since she's moving to Ottawa next week, she won't be able to make the rescheduled date. *kicks blackouts*
For a bit of good news, my lovely TV station ran TAR again last night since so many people missed it. So it's sitting upstairs on tape waiting for me. YAY!
Listening to: Elbow - Fallen Angel
"Choose your favourite..."
I'm sitting at work, enjoying my training shift on one of the bigger, more complicated edit suites when suddenly the power jumps a bit. You know, the lights dim, the computer screens jump. So I head into the hall and say "power bump" to one of the guys. He says "yep, power bump." and that's when the power decides to go out for real. So we stand around in our emergency lighting for about a minute until the generator kicks in and we get partial power. Some lights, a few of the edit suites, some of the computers. Basically enough things that we could still put on a newscast if we have to. The weird thing is that the power stays out. Then someone says that the power is out in Toronto too. That's just weird. So we're all still milling around when a co-worker comes downstairs. She's been up in our control room, where they still have a working TV, watching CNN. She tells us that the power is out in Ottawa, Toronto, Detroit, and New York. WTF?
When you work at a TV station there are certain kinds of stories that only come across once in a lifetime. At least, that's the speech our News Director gave us on September 11th. He gave it to us again last night.
Needless to say, my training shift went out the window. I grabbed a camera, and braved the streets and the idiot drivers who didn't get the idea of treating all intersections as a 4 way street. I went to a regional meeting of an emergency group (BOOORING), and to Dairy Queen where they were giving away cakes. That was much more fun. I ended up staying until 9:30. And I missed TAR! Grrrr... I'll have to dig it up on our logger tapes. No one tell me what happened!
Oh, and SM brought up the fact that the Mayor of New York said this whole problem started in Canada. Why is it that Americans (as a country) can never take responsibility for anyfrickinthing? The way this whole thing started? Fire at a plant in New York state. Know what's funny about New York State? It's not in Canada. Nice try, but this one's on you. I don't mean to offend any of my wonderful American friends, because you know I love you all. But stuff like that really annoys me.
I went to see Tori and Ben Folds tonight. What a great show! We arrive at the venue, which is outdoor in the 30 degree heat (that's about 90F to you Americans) so it was insanely hot. But that was forgotten when we got to our seats. 10th row, center. Ah yeah!! They were amazing seats, in fact the only time I've had better seats was when I was 7th row to see Depeche Mode at the same venue. But anyway, back to the show. Ben Folds is hilarious! Who knew? I only know a few of his songs but he was so entertaining! I'd go and see him again in a heartbeat. He did this great, slowed down version of Song for the Dumped. He was singing it so seriously, but that song is just so funny. He also played Army, which was great. I could do this forever, but I'll just sum it up with he rocked.
Next, out came Tori looking like an angel in this frilly white shirt/dress thing. Very pretty. She played for about 2 hours straight, before doing a couple of encores. So she ended up playing for about 2 and a half hours! Of course she was amazing. Tori never, ever disapoints. She played some great songs, including Siren, God, Cornflake Girl, Hey Jupiter, Precious Things, and Take to the Sky. For me, the highlight of a Tori show is when she busts out a cover tune. Cause Tori can do some awesome covers. Ever heard her do Smells Like Teen Spirt? You should go find it if you haven't. So Tori's playing a little pretty piano solo, and then she sings "So she woke up..." and I thought "wow, it would be awesome if she was doing U2's Running to Stand Still." Then Tori sings again "So she woke up..." could it be???
"So she woke up, woke up from where she was lying still. Said I've got to do something about where we're going. Step on a fast train, step out of the driving rain maybe, run from the darkness in the night..."
OH YEAH!!!!!! Running to Stand Still is not only one of my all time favourite U2 songs, but one of my all time favourite songs EVER. It is so damn good, and Tori did the most wonderful and beautiful version of it. It just about broke my heart. In a good way.
Next concert outing is Saturday to go see Radiohead. It's at the same place, and of course since I got 10th row for Tori, the ticket gods have cursed me with the General Admission lawn seats for Radiohead. But I guess I don't really need to see them, as long as I can hear them.
On a completely different note, I heard Hawksley Workman's Jealous of Your Cigarette today, and this instantly came to mind:
"I'm jealous of your cigarette, and all the things you do with it... the pleasure that you get from it... "
Listening to: Howie Day - You and a Promise
"She was nervous, she was late, she left it up to fate..."
1. It's Tuesday, which means it's MI-5 and The OC day! Hurrah!!!
2. I was trying to be good and not read any Alias spoilers for the upcoming season. Well that went out the window today. I'm now totally spoiled and very ashamed of myself. But if the rumors about the second episode are true, then Wheeeeeee!
3. Space is rocking my world. First they started showing Farscape from the beginning so I could get hooked on that, and now they are going to start running Firefly! That is the best news ever, with the exception of if they were running the episodes that FOX never showed. Sadly that isn't the case. *kicks FOX* They're also going to be running Dark Angel, which I would be more excited about if I hadn't devoured the season 1 box set a while back. But when they start showing the Season Two episodes it will be a different story because then it will be all about JENSEN!!!
4. Speaking of Jensen and the fact that he's super hot, here's a picture of him looking super hot:
We Acklesholics call that one The Cage. Oh Yeah.
5. More Jensen: I can't wait for Still Life mostly because Jensen is in it. All of you must watch so that it will get good ratings, and FOX won't cancel it, and then Jensen won't be forced to take a really boring, awful part *coughCJonDCcough* to pay the bills.
6. David Duchovny is going to be on SATC as Carrie's high school sweetheart. YAY! Hopefully I won't want to smack him. But since I'm guessing he won't be mentioning conspiracies, his abducted sister, or walking around with that whipped puppy look that always made me wish that Krycek would come and give him something to actually cry about, I think I'll probably enjoy his performance. I really shouldn't be so mean to DD, after all he was my first TV boyfriend.

You know those bitchy record store people? I'm not talking about the crazy Rob, Dick and Barry type of guys working in High Fidelity like stores... I mean the guys who work at HMV, or whatever random generic music stores you have in the States. They think that they know everything about music, and everything you like is crap. I'll be the first person to admit that I'm a music snob, but I know that not everyone likes the music that I do. And I never knock anyone for the music they listen to... I might joke with them about it, but generally as long as you can tell me why you like it, it's all fine by me.
Anyway, this whole topic has been inspired by an email my friend J sent me today. She was talking about wandering into a used CD store in town with her roommate. The whole thing started when she spotted a copy of Coldplay's Parachutes. I'll just paste in her email now:
I almost punched out one of the guys in the store because I pointed out that "Parachutes" was in the recommendation bin for cheap and remarked that it's sad that someone gave it away... And the sissy boy behind the counter embarked on a rant about how Coldplay was "so over-hyped"... I proceeded to tell him that I like the older stuff and that I realize while it's not a freaking
symphonic enigma of complexity, it's still a good album that isn't a rip-off of
anything and it speaks to me on a deeper level than most radio-friendly
crappola. Little jerk-face just kept going on about it... I used to think that he
was cute, but he had to open his mouth and let me know that he's one of
those "I'm so mod and sad and did you see my mod hair? Because I'm mod, I
therefore require a haircut that reflects my deep and sad nature. I'm so mod I can't even remember why I'm sad anymore. Music? You don't like music. I like
music. Your tastes do not exclusively reflect my tastes ergo you are not cool. Certainly nowhere as cool as my hair. I'm sad. I will go write in my Secret Thoughts diary about my bitchy and mind-f*ck girlfriend. She is so mod. She makes me feel inadequate. Boy, is she the greatest. But that makes me sad too. I think this will be a good song to write for my band... which is just me and a guitar. But my hamster Mr. Hammy-Ham digs it. He's so mod." And so on.
LMAO! Isn't that classic? So next time you run into one of those annoying Mod Record Store guys, just think of that email.

First, MI-5 was wonderful last night, as per usual. Also, Anthony Stewart Head is guest starring next week! I love ASH! Have since he was the Tasters Choice guy, then Oliver on VR-5, and of course Giles on Buffy.
I could go on about MI-5 longer, but instead I have to talk about The OC, and how much I adored it! It was wonderful! So trashy, and bad but oh-so-good. I mean, it had everything! Middle age men playing 16 year old boys! The Drama! The Angst! A Fashion Show! Really, what more could you ask for? And I love Seth. I loved when he asked Ryan to play video games, I loved the posters in his room, I loved that he named his boat after a girl he's never talked to. Although I really didn't see the appeal there. That Summer chick was wrong. But overall, I really liked it and I'm looking forward to next weeks ep.
Waaaay off topic... I was trying to find something to wear today. Since I haven't done laundry in forever, it was a hard task. So I pull out a shirt that I bought very early this summer, but have never worn because whenever I put it on it always make me feel fat. But desperate times call for fat shirts, so I put it on and went into work. Where I received at least 6 complements from people saying how good I look in the shirt, how cute the shirt is, they love the shirt. Weird. Isn't it funny how something that you think looks bad looks really good to everyone else? Maybe all those days that I think I look awesome, people are standing around saying "what was she thinking?" Who knows?
Listening to: Work, nada, boring... But today I'm reccing Tori Amos in honour of her concert next week...
Ok, I suck. I'm sorry that it took me so long to get the Dave review up. Honestly, just read the review below, substitute "Toronto" with "Detroit" and you've basically got it. The only thing that was really different was the temperature. My Dear Lord, it was hot. I have never been so hot in my entire life. And I'm including the time I spent walking through Mayan ruins in the mid afternoon Mexico heat. It was insane! The venue either had no air conditioning, or it was broken. I wasn't quite sure. But either way, there was no A/C. So you take 1000 or so people, and stuff them into a fairly small room. Add an amazing band, some really high powered super hot lights, and a bunch of crazy, energetic Dave Gahan fans boucing around and you end up with the hottest, sweatiest mess you've ever seen. I mean, it was really really awful. The guy next to me kept turning to me and saying "It's really fucking hot!" By the time I left, my hair was soaking wet, and curly, and my tank top was soaked. And I looked good compared to some people... I felt back for the girl in front of me in long sleeves. Yuck.
After the show I went the fan route, and stalked out the back door with a bunch of people. I haven't done that in a long time. Dave came out and waved, but headed straight to the tour bus. Vincent the drummer came out and chatted a bit. He was super nice. I asked him what he thought about the show and he said that the temperature "made it hard to breathe" but that the audience made up for it. So another great show, but I did like the Toronto one better. Click here to see some lovely pictures from the TO show. Sadly the photographer grabbed all his pics during the first song before Dave started stripping, but he still looks yummy.
I did take a few pictures of my own at the Detroit show. So when I get them developed, and if I ever get a scanner I'll put them up to show everyone.
Here's hoping that The OC is good tonight, and will fill the teen angst drama void in my life. And yay for MI-5. God I love that show...
Expect more drooling/lusting/crazed love for Dave Gahan here sometime tomorrow. I'm heading off to Detroit shortly with my friend J. First we're meeting up with SM and Jenai for dinner, and then it's off to see the man.
In the meantime, go to One's and stare at all the hot men she posted. She has The Kief. With handcuffs. Need I say more?
